I agree with the reviewers who felt this book had all kinds of great ideas and then didn't do that much with them. It felt like the rough sketch of a book with several scenes written fully, but large parts that would help the characters develop and the plot fill out were missing.

I read this as part of a quest to find read-alikes for The Lost Hero (and if you have any suggestions, please let me know!). About the only thing the two have in common is that they both explore how characters from Greek myths might manifest in the modern world, but fans of the Rick Riordan books looking for fully-developed characters, non-stop action, and a complete story arc will be disappointed. The Game is also written for a younger audience (actual children) while The Lost Hero seems more like a teen book now that the main characters are growing up, a la Harry Potter.
