Charming comedy of manners set in a small English village. Major Pettigrew is a very proper widower who surprisingly finds a kindred spirit in a widowed Pakistani shopkeeper. The book is gentle, but it doesn't trivialize the difficulties the pair faces in gaining acceptance for their relationship. Highly recommended to all my Anglophile friends.
