really liked it

I read this before seeing the Coen Brothers' (very faithful) movie adaptation. It's beautifully written, and the voice of Mattie Ross--funny, sharp, tough--is a terrific achievement. The only thing that kept me from a five-star review is that, near the end, Mattie's take on the world seemed a little too familiar, a little too repetitive. Still, I highly recommend this novel, especially if you haven't seen either of the movie versions yet.
