bookshelves: classics, coming-of-age

This is what story-telling is supposed to be - masterful, engrossing, yet light-handed (OK, until the last 50 pages where Dickens gives in to the Hollywood ending avant la lettre, told as much through atmosphere and character as plot. It makes me happy that authors such as Dickens should exist, to whom you can always return after slogging through too many botched narratives (well, I've said nothing about this book in fact, but who needs that!)
