Beautiful, sad story set in Germany about a girl who falls for a boy known in school for selling drugs but who she learns is a caring brother from a poor family whose mother doesn't ever show up and tells lovely stories to his younger sister. As he tells the story of a young queen (aka his younger sister) surviving on a ship, various people die. When they die in real life, Anna worries about who is actually killing them. Note: while mostly this is fine for middle school, there is a rape scene and some abuse/violence in the second half of the book, so I would recommend it to 8th grade and above.
