This is the first Karin Slaughter book I have read. Before I read the book did read the short novella Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes that precedes the story in this book and I was quite looking forward to reading the book since the story about a missing girl and the two sisters left behind seemed very interesting.

And, the book was good for around 60% and then it just lost steam and my interest in the book and I felt not the usual feeling I get when the book is starting to get close to the ending, the feeling of not wanting to put the book down and read until you can hardly see because your eyes are so tired. I didn't have that feeling with this book. The last part of the story was just not that good, it tries too hard to shock the reader, but all I felt when stuff was revealed was a sense of tiredness over the lacking of ingenuity.

Personally I could have lived with the book ending around 60% instead of dragging on and on. I mean was anyone even surprised who the big bad guy was or the people that were involved in the whole thing? I wasn't...

2.5 stars since I did like most of the story, but it would have been even better with around 100-150 fewer pages, less over the top twists (especially the big one when they found the house that just felt too much).

Thanks to William Morrow and Edelweiss for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

♛Tash It started to go downhill for me after 60% too. Great review :)

Magdalena aka A Bookaholic Swede Thanks. It's seen a couple reviews that state that the book is good the first 60% then it goes bad...too bad Slaughters publisher didn't think so...

Rosie Completely agree with you! Excellent review :)

Mary Ok. So I just added to my TBR. Now I'm removing cuz I don't like over-the-top-try-to-shock-me books. Great review and I certainly appreciate the honesty.

Jean I agree BUT read her others. Start from her first in the Jeffrey Tolliver/Sara Linton series. She is amazing.

Kelly (and the Book Boar) So much yes. I thought the story was getting ready to wrap up in 50 pages or so only to get hit with another couple hundred : (

Magdalena aka A Bookaholic Swede Yeah and that seriously damaged the books rating. Does she get paid by the number of words? XD

sally wilkinson I agree but lost me at 50 percent.Too much detail it became boring so i skipped to the end

Bobbi (Bobbi Reads Too Much) I'm 53% through and I feel like it's reaching its climax. Realizing there is 250 pages still left, how in the hell can they possibly stretch this out further? I love Karin Slaughter and her Grant County series is amazing. I'm hoping I can get through the second half as fast as the first.

Jen Thank goodness I am not the only one who felt this story could use fewer pages and wrap up better and sooner.

Delrine Billings I'm about to skip too, ahhh

Peter Yup, this was a piece of crap. I find Slaughter very uneven. if you want to give here another chance, try Triptych.

Stephanie I started listening to this book last night. I'l let you know how it goes. I'm finding these stories are better when listening rather than reading....

Antonia Stručić This was a bad book. My first book of the author...Bad choice. So inconsistent and unconvincing. We knew who is the bad guy on 50% of the book, after that is too long and boring. Full of unnecessary details. Normal people wouldn't act like people in the book. Example, mother abandoning her daughter Lydia, especially after what happened with Julia. And than sending letters by Paul..Give me a break! That's only one of examples why I thing it was unconvincing...
