it was amazing

I have known about the storytelling prowess of Mrs. April Grady for many years though this is her first published work. I can honestly say that it is refreshing to see her (finally) formally publish one of her stories!

Canyon Riddle is a really fun read. It's the story of a Texas Ranger (the storied law-enforcement group not the baseball team) named Scott Durham, and the mystery surrounding a body found in Palo Duro Canyon. There are several fun characters and a budding romance. The story holds together very well and clearly Mrs. Grady knows (and loves) the Texas plains a great deal. The recipe for a decent murder-mystery is to leave the reader (you and me) guessing until the end, and in this task the author has succeeded in spades. I managed to read the book over two days and through it I thought I had figured out the "who" of "who done it" three times before the big reveal. Nothing like being surprised by a twist that you never saw coming.

I will admit that the whole mystery genre is not my normal fare. But I found this book to be most enjoyable, and will likely find a re-read in the near future. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a refreshingly fun, and well-written story.

I look forward to seeing what is next from Mrs. Grady, and I hope that she continues the story of Texas Ranger, Scott Durham!
