bookshelves: to-read, gave-up

This book is impossible to read in chunks; the unclear shifts in narration and the rambling metaphors and descriptions demand long sits so that you can keep tabs on the action, and I heard a rumor that Thomas Pynchon was high when he wrote this and can't remember half of what he meant. That greatly worries me.
