really liked it
bookshelves: young-adult-literature

This historical non-fiction takes place during the Civil War and follows sixteen different narrators through their own unique, parallel experiences. These narrators include generals, slaves, black soldiers, white soldiers, children, doctors, etc. Hearing about the battles from all of the different perspectives is very interesting and helpful to understanding the true state of the nation at this time. This book would be an excellent addition to any classroom, particularly a history classroom. However, it could also be implemented in an English classroom for the purpose of teaching perspective and point of view. This is a quick read, and is very clean despite a couple of mildly graphic descriptions of injuries. I would recommend it to ages 12 and up.
