I read this book about life in the Orthodox Jewish community in Memphis after picking it up in a thrift shop. It was good but had some problems, at least for a reader who's not Jewish. The limits the parents place upon their children seems extreme--a teenage girl who's only allowed to apply to a single, Orthodox college surprised me, for example. Other parts of the plot seemed a stretch to believe, the interaction of the newcomer with the rabbi's son continuing despite overwhelming disapproval from the whole community especially. In general it was good but not very good or a great read.
