it was amazing
bookshelves: environmentalism, journalism, ocean, sports

Susan Carey continues her quest to keep me out of the sea. This book was great, it made surfing sound insane, in a good way and global warming sound terrifying. And I learned that a 1,740-foot tall wave hit Alaska in 1958, something I still can't wrap my head around.

I was worried that this book was going to be too much about surfing, and there was a lot of surfing in it (and no small amount of hero worship -- all Casey's surfers are always displaying a surprising amount of calmness and humility as they adhere to their unique moral code). But it didn't end up bothering me. Great, great book.
