tough call on this one. MUCH to praise -- some very excellent writing, dialogue, very probing discussion of jewishiness, anti-semitism, self-hating jews, israeli-arab conflict, etc. -- I liked a lot of it, paragraph by paragraph -- yet overall found it tedious, onerous, had to constantly force myeslf to return to it ... mainly the main characters are not at all appealing or engaging, and even though they do develop nicely and warm up as you go along, I just didn't want to hear so much about them ... (and the Treslove character, who decides he must be a jew at heart, got a little ridiculous in my view) ...

very worth reading for those interested in its issues -- and there's some very good humor as well -- but for me, a matter of taste, wasn't overall a very enjoyable read ...
