Johnson proves his mastery of storytelling. Though didactic, Johnson's tale is simple in its presentation of the pursuit of a question (or rather the resolution to the question) of what is happiness and what contributes to one's happy state. I never felt that Johnson's characters were preaching any particular "right" path over a "wrong" one. Instead, my perception was that he presented varied arguments and scenarios and in the end leave one's personal perception and thinking to figure it out. In addition, you are enveloped in Johnson's concise and beautiful prose.
