really liked it

Beautiful Darkness is about a young mortal man named Ethan who is in love with a Caster girl named Lena. On Lena’s 16th birthday, disaster strikes in the guise of a member of Lena’s family, the wicked Sarafine, who kills Ethan’s mother. This disaster, and Lena’s upcoming choice before her pulls apart the young lovers. By Lena’s 17th birthday, she must choose whether she will be a dark caster or a light caster. If Lena becomes a dark caster, Ethan will lose her forever. So begins the quest of Ethan to save Lena from choosing the dark side and bringing her to the light.

The story is set in Gatlin, South Carolina and reads like a letter from the old south, with charm and elegance. That southern charm is almost another character it is so beautifully portrayed. There is an abundance of teenage angst and sexual tension, demons, sirens, vampires, and ancient wise women scattered throughout the tale. The story is well written with beautiful prose and tense action and is wonderfully entertaining. Beautiful Darkness is somewhat in the vein of Twilight though written with more skill. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a teenage angst filled vampire like story.
