it was ok

I haven't read The Looking Glass Wars, and didn't know anything about them when I picked up this graphic novel. I was attracted to the artwork, which reminds me a little of Dave McKean's (though not quite up to that level), and also to the twist on the Alice in Wonderland story.

I think the story has some promise; I like the concept of the badass hatter looking for a lost Alyss. But it's too sparse. I felt like I went through a lot of pages with not much content. And sometimes it was hard to tell what was happening in the images. Weirdly, I've been running into that in a lot of comics lately. Maybe it's the style now, or maybe I'm just noticing it more. I can tolerate a certain amount of visual ambiguity, but when you combine that with the sparse story, it just didn't hold up. I was kind of interested in checking out the novels, since the premise is still interesting, but after reading reviews, I think I'll just pass on this whole enterprise. What a shame.
