“Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does all the work”--Mark Twain. Vanished is written by Meg Cabot, this novel's genre is fantasy. The main character of the novel, Jessica Mastriani, was just a normal girl but everything changed when lightning struck her. Meg Cabot is a fantastic writer and she wrote many other novels for instance, Avalon High, The Princess Diaries, The Mediator, and more.

Jessica Mastriani was an ordinary girl walking home from school until lightning struck her. When she arrived home she saw a weird shape on her body from the lightning. When Jessica, Jess, told her parents that she was struck by lightning they could hardly believe it, because people that are stuck by lightning will be dead. On the same night when Jess was struck by lightning she had a weird dream about missing children on milk carton. For several nights, Jess experienced the same dream about missing children. Eventually she finally understood that after she was struck by lightning she has the power to find missing children. Although, this gift is very rare there are disadvantages and advantages to it. For example, there are many people from the federal government who are chasing after Jess because of her unique superpower. Throughout the novel, Jess have to learn who she can trust and who she can not trust. Also she have to learn how to control her power and prevent people from knowing that she has that gift.

Vanished is an excellent novel written by Meg Cabot. She write thoroughly about the main character and the readers are able to understand Jess, because the story is written in Jess point of view. I would recommend this novel to anyone that enjoys reading Meg Cabot's novels. Also for people that enjoys reading fantasy novels!
