bookshelves: adult, bookclub

The American South has its great lit, this is great epic lit for the Pacific Northwest. Beautifully poetic language, great sense of place and time, echoes of Biblical fraternal conflict, issues of the many vs the one, great overall structure, and the best ratcheting up of tension ever. Not a quick read by any means, and Kesey is better at male characters than females, this was a great book-club read
