A beautiful compilation of linked monologues based on children living in a medieval village, interspersed with explanations of aspects of medieval life. Despite my initial misgivings, I found this book to be moving and engaging on an emotional level, and brilliant in its execution. A nontraditional but legitimate addition to the Newbery elite.
