This was such a sweet book. I was afraid that it would become a type of feminist/gender manifesto, but Kellen, the townspeople, and the author accept her situation and move on. There is a nice background mystery (to me at least) about Kellen's mother and whether or not she really did give birth to a boy, but that doesn't overpower the story of Kellen and Gryffon's every day life. Even though there were some very bad things that happen, overall everything was nice and happy and almost too neatly tied up.
