it was amazing

Being a grandmother is the cushiest job around: all the love and cuteness and little of the responsibility. Until everything goes wrong. The book opens with Mad Max moving back south to care for her grandchildren while her daughter is in a hospital recovering from an automobile accident.
It seems like a typical short-term bad situation and then bad turns to worse. The twists and turns seem to never stop. And you just don't see them coming until they punch you in the face. Mad Max even has to contend with a woman who has "all the charm of a rattlesnake that needs a root canal."
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and think you will, too.
