This was the first time I'd ever read Mary Ruefle. Just happened to pull the book off the shelf at the library, and really liked it. Her work feels like a combination of Sylvia Plath and James Tate. A sad frustratedness with how life is and humans are, with a thick layer of dreaminess-- the escape hatch that keeps things from ever getting completely unbearable.

Curious to read more.
