really liked it
Recommended for: students of theory

Gasché offers a lucid, thorough look at de Man's rhetorical readings. The analysis is dense at times, but I can't imagine any responsible discussion of de Man being a quick read. The greatest value of this book is that it offers what is so difficult to find in de Manean studies: a fair, intelligent look at one of the divisive figures of literary studies.
