Moving story about a father who, mourning the death of his young wife, leaves his home with their daughter, and travels with her from England to France, Switzerland and Italy to escape the mother's memory but they cannot. He paints her from his memory while living with his daughter and her governess in Florence but then returns to England to ensure that his daughter finds her circle of people where the mother came from.
