it was amazing
bookshelves: books-i-own, books-read-in-2010, young-adult

All of the kids in the Junior High were supposed to read this book last year. I think this is why it has been laying around the house forever. I picked it up and read it and loved. Then I went to talk to my children about this book, and unfortunately neither one of them read it. Jake did read the first page and he did remember it quite well. Although, that didn't leave us much to discuss. Our conversation went something like this...

Me - Jake did you read the book Stargirl ?
Jake - Is that the one about the boy that collects porcupine neck ties?
Me - Yes thats the one (very excitedly) Did you like it?
Jake - Oh I only read the first page.
Me - Really that's it?
Jake - Ya, it seemed kind of dumb.

So that was the extent of our discussion. I however really enjoyed this book. One of the reasons I think I found this book so compelling, is I can totally relate to Stargirl. As a mom you find that what you were doing yesterday suddenly isn't cool anymore. Oh how I miss the days when my kids all loved having me volunteer in their school classes.

Anyway I am definitely babbling! These are some of my favorite parts.

Pg 15 "She had no friends, but she was the friendliest person in school."

Pg 40 About the mud frogs

Pg 118 "Did you ever see a little kids face when he finds a penny?"

Pg 137 This group thing, it is pretty strong ...

Shauna Ruske I wondered if it was any good. The kids don't seem to care that much for it probably because they don't "get" it.
