it was ok

Time Salvager was a pretty disappointing experience from a writer I had not read before but had heard good things about. The world building is fun, though the clever premise - time travelers from the future mining resources from past disasters so as not to disrupt the time stream - is mostly primed for the Michael Bay movie it is destined to become. That might be my biggest problem with the book: the grandiose set pieces and overheated melodrama feel like they were written with the film rights in mind, rather than because the author had a story he needed to tell. Chu is an engaging enough writer, and he manages to dole out the clichés with just enough panache that the book is never boring, but the end result is too easy to shrug off and too loud to take seriously.
