The Giver

I was very impressed with this dystopian classic.
I loved how this book tricked me into thinking: ‘Oh, this world sounds nice. No war and no fighting and no unsafety.’
But of course, it isn’t.
Everything is controlled and black and white - colors are not necessary for a functioning society in this book. But Jonas is different than the other inhabitants. He can see beyond. The way he starts to see and discover the ugly truth of his village is confronting. I felt as powerless as Jonas when reading and discovering new facts. I liked how he ‘learns’ his first color (red) and then notices it in the smallest things. How even that makes such a difference to the beauty of his world.
A short, not too hard book, that will really make you think afterwards.
