Synopsis of book:

When Grace’s teacher shows the class pictures of all the past presidents, Grace asks “where are all the girls?” Disappointed that there has never been a female president, Grace decides to be the first. Inspired by her enthusiasm, Grace’s teacher is prompted to hold a mock election. The book gives a realistic and accessible understanding of how a campaign is run and what role electoral votes play in the process.

How I would use this in my classroom:

The concept of electoral votes is complicated even to some adults. This would be an excellent primer to explain the process and lead into a more detailed explanation of the history of the election process. The book could easily integrate a lesson with both social studies and math. The book also teaches students about character and following through on your commitments.
