Coehlo's first book is significant because it was during his Camino pilgrimage that he decided to follow his dream and become a writer. Coelho weaves in symbolism and history about the Camino de Santiago throughout his adventure.
One part of this book was so deep. It made me understand agape love and brought tears to my eyes - for I was sorry for those I know who have lost their enthusiasm, and grateful to have found mine. I love the theme of "fighting the good fight."
A few parts were unbelievable and disgusting, like the fights with the dog, which is why I give it 4 stars. Overall, The Pilgrimage is a good read for fans of the Camino de Santiago and Paulo Coelho.
