really liked it

I was glad to find a free copy of the paperback, since I'd been wanting to read this for ages. I couldn't put it down - it was a very good read. I don't think it was as serious or revelatory as the author thought it was, though. It reads like a soap opera, and all the morals are pretty much spelled out. I didn't feel it said much new about the racial dynamics and relationships of maids to rich ladies. It felt like a classic book club selection (not my book club, though!), in that it is on a serious topic but isn't really controversial and is an easy read.
