it was amazing
bookshelves: adult, children-s-picture-book, middle-grade, ya, timeless

After my pastor used it in his sermon today, I have a completely new perspective on this book. Pastor John Mollett pointed out how many people have negative feelings about The Giving Tree, but he viewed this book through a religious lens: that message is give of yourself to lift up others so that they may find the fullness of life. He reminded us that it is through sacrificing for others that we are living the life God intends us to live -- and this book perfectly illustrates that if you view the tree as God. Deep thoughts, which I am sure Silverstein intended one way or another.
