This book grew on me. I did not like the writing style at first. The first person narrative was too angry and arrogant. But as you see Fat Girl transform from Fat Girl to simply Jamie she loses much of her anger and starts to rethink many of the positions she held so stridently at the beginning of the novel. This book is eye opening, raw, angry, but ultimately life-affirming in it's look at body issues at the fat-acceptance movement in our society. Very interesting reading especially when combined with a). the recent article in Bitch Magazine about the hidden taboo of eating disorders in the fat acceptance movement and b). Fat is a Feminist Issue by Susie Orbach.
