After reading this book I'm feeling really wierd writing about it since that is exactly the kind of behaviour the book gently mocks. I have a sneaky suspicion that if I searched the web hard enough I would find an obsessive fan group maintaining a Nicky Hornby website and blogging about why he placed a comma where he did. And that is really a part of what this book is about, how fans can get it wrong, promulgate it all over the web and turn somewhat ordinary events into mystical, earthshattering EVENTS. The ending of the book was a little loose - what happens to Duncan now that his entire world has been turned upside down? does he fall apart and find some other musician to obsess about or grow up? does Annie get out of Gooleness and change her life for the better? with Tucker? The online exchange that ends the book made me laugh out loud! Dear God!
