really liked it
bookshelves: picture-books

A beautifully told story, especially for older children (even through the upper grades). The pictures are amazing and really add depth to the narration. I think this would work well in a history or LA class for middle school children. The theme of immigration and the sorrow and joy that comes from leaving ones homeland and venturing out into a new world is beautifully written. I think this would get children thinking about the immigrant experience in a new way. You could sense the longing for a person would feel for both their old and new homes and the inner turmiol that would come with being in flux. I really enjoyed this book.
