really liked it
bookshelves: young-adult-fiction, juvenile-fiction, j-historical

Although this is cataloged in our young adult collection, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to older kids. A somewhat melancholy, but ultimately hopeful, historical fiction account of one family's journey on the Oregon trail. I particularly enjoyed the beginning part of the novel, where we meet and explore the early part of our protagonist's life. There were many rich characters, and though the pace faltered for me towards the end, I really enjoyed this book. For fans of Ruth White, the Little House series and possibly even Kate DiCamillo.
