Anyone with at least a passing interest in biology needs to read this book. This is much more informative, entertaining, and brilliant than any textbook. It is a landmark in biological thought and really changed the way that we think about biology and genetics. The gene as an individual and selfish unit and the idea of a meme were advanced in this book. The anniversary edition contains many comments as to the book's importance in the biological canon. Dawkins established himself as a force with this classic and has built off the book's success. Its strength aside from its brilliance is the eloquence and persuasion with which Dawkins writes; forcing the reader to understand such difficult concepts with a kind of ease.
