Carver is like the Seinfeld of short stories. They're usually about nothing. But it's when you take a real close look at the things we experience as mundane when you realize how much is really being said. The only downside to some of his work is that it gives a kind of disappointed feeling at some endings, because the story never really resolves itself. There's all this build up and then it just ends with a simple wave or something. It's the closest thing to literary blue balls I can find.
