very mixed but with a few gems

I bought this collection a few years ago when the concept seemed new ... what would the world be like after the Old Ones rise? After several years of the most excellent BPRD comic series, though, the idea isn't so new anymore. The stories in this collection are pretty mixed, some BPRD esque and not terribly inspired, but a few really stand out and impress ... my tip of the hat to Messr's Barron, Langan, and Webb in particular. For the obsessive or detail oriented, here's my one to five star rating for each story:

"The Walker in the Cemetery" (Ian Watson) - 3 would have been 2 if no for the ending
"Sanctuary" (Don Webb) - 5
"Her Acres of Pastoral Playground" (Mike Allen) - 4
"Spherical Trigonometry" (Ken Asamatsu) - 3
"What Brings the Void" (Will Murray) - 3
"The New Pauline Corpus" (Matt Cardin) - 4
"Ghost Dancing" (Darrell Schweitzer) - 3
"This is How the World Ends" (John R. Fultz) - 3
"The Shallows" (John Langan) - 5
"Such Bright and Risen Madness in Our Names" (Jay Lake) - 4
"The Seals of New R'lyeh" (Gregory Frost) - 2
"The Holocaust of Ecstasy" (Brian Stableford) - 4
"Vastation" (Laird Barron) - 5
"Nothing Personal" (Richard A. Lupoff) - 4
"Remnants" (Fred Chappell) - 4
