liked it

Some books I wonder just why I'm actually reading them. I don't like the characters, and the pretense and plot aren't that interesting. Mostly, when I feel this way, I give up and jettison the book to a growing pile in the corner of my living room. But there are some I continue reading, and I can't really explain why. James M. Cain's Mildred Pierce was such a book. I found none of the characters likeable and the plot predictable. Yet I read the entire book all the way through to the bitter end. Maybe it's that Cain knows how to write and this book's subject matter just wasn't my taste.

Rhonda oligney yet u gave it 3 stars luv??mmm was it merely because u "didn't" liek the characters lol..well one to scratch off the list

Patrick O'Neil well, it wasn't badly written. Just wasn't for me.

David I kinda had to force myself to get further than chapter one. I had a hard time starting Rebecca, too, and that's a classic. This one was extremely readable, though. It is a little closer to Dreiser than Dickens, if you follow me.
