3.5. Felt like this fizzled a bit in the end, though the premise is good and keeping Jack's voice consistent is a strength.

Kristi I agree on the ending. I thought it was a tremendous example of imagination and so much of her portrayal of Jack's voice and life in the "room" rang true, psychologically.

Sonya Yes, I think the novel as a whole is an accomplishment, and I was compelled to read and keep reading till the end. Did you ever read Richard Hughes' A High Wind in Jamaica? It's a book written mostly from the perspective of children who are stolen away on a pirate ship. It's a NYRB Classics from earlier 20th century. Lots of imagination, funny and sometimes horrifying.

Kristi I haven't read that but it sounds fantastic. Another one for the list!
