I can't say I felt as engaged by Factotum as I did by Post Office, but then the message of Factotum seems to be one of complete disengagement. It is unmistakably Bukowski: simple and vulgar, but flashing glimpses of sublime beauty so quickly you could easily miss them. As in Post Office, there's a very subtle humor here. As you near the end, you know Chinaski will lose every job he undertakes; it's merely a question of how and when.
