it was amazing

About as enjoyable a read as it gets - a scientific, swashbuckling, very funny romp if such a thing can be imagined. History and fiction intertwined. Wonderfully vivid characters. Highly detailed descriptions of life in the seventeenth century. Overly long as many other reviews will tell you, but this does not detract from the pleasure of reading this book.
