really liked it
bookshelves: own-read

Although this is the 15th book in J.D. Robb's In Death series, it is the first one I have read. I was impressed with the story's ability to stand alone in a series. This book maintained that perfect balance required to make a new reader not feel lost in the story, and an existing reader not feel bored by repeat information. I am looking forward to learning more about the character's and their adventures in both past and future books in this series.

My one critique is Lt. Eve Dallas's multi-billionaire husband Roarke. His financial status allows the author to take a "money is no object" approach, which means anything is possible for these characters and the author's imagination is not restricted. While this makes for an interesting read, I would feel more connected to the characters if they were faced with some real world financial limits. When they encounter a problem, or a difficult situation, it is too easily overcome with their limitless supply of money.
