I was truly taken in by this book. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next, and read with eager anticipation. I have to admit, I had to put it down for a couple of days in the middle. I needed a break from her husband. The narcissism of that man made me want to strangle him. Ms. Bronte does a fantastic job of making you feel just as trapped as Helen during his worst times. And the audacity of that man to flaunt his misdeeds in front of his wife is almost as shocking today as it must have been when she wrote it. Definitely suspenseful but ultimately satisfying.
