really liked it
bookshelves: biography

Welty recounts her Mississippi childhood and youth with charm, close observation, and insight. Her deep love of stories and books began early, and she goes straight to the heart of why she wanted to be a writer. With so many popular childhood memoirs over the last few years written about dysfunctional, even abusive, families, it is refreshing to read about parents and children who love each other. Because of its warmth and short length, this would be an ideal book club selection, even for clubs that read mostly fiction.
