really liked it

One of my earliest memories is of watching black and white television in the summer of 1969. Walter Cronkite was reading the news of the day from the war in Vietnam, with casualty tallies against a video background of American soldiers firing artillery into the distance. This book brought back that memory to me and filled me with a deeper sense of what that war was about from those who were actually there.

I didn't like this book. It was vulgar and violent. Still I found myself listening a little longer as I arrived at destinations in my car because I wanted to know how it was going to turn out.
