The Good Son
Anna Redsand's review

Had I not heard a review on NPR, I probably wouldn't have chosen this book, because I'm a little tired of the Middle East. However, Sheila Bailey Laghiri, the mother of the good son, an American married to a Pakistani, fluent in Pashto and Urdu, taken hostage by the Taliban, is a fascinating character who held me in her grip. A Jungian psychologist and practicing Muslim and Catholic, she turns her captors inside out by confronting them with their own Koran. She is another one of us who bridges cultures.
