Wow! This book took my breathe away.....a buddy lent me this book and he said this is such a great book you are going to love it.....well by the time I was one-third of the way through the book I had to really re-evaluate my buddies taste in contemporary writing, because I was so upset with the total dysfunction of the family between the absent alcoholic father and the manic-depressed mother....I was ready to put the book down but knowing that this was autobiographical there was a part of me that was also curious on how it turns out for the kids...Jeanette pulled it together enough to write a book and her brother became a NYPD but the younger sibling ended up with psychiatric issues like the mother.
My buddy was right this was a really good book! Just from a human interest story it just goes to show me how strong our will is to not only survive but to thrive after some very horrendous circumstances.
