Tom Hooker's review
Aug 13, 2010
Chance Taylor is a high school senior who loves to run for exercise. He lives on a small boat in the Seattle marina with his father, a Gulf War vet who is an unemployable alcoholic. Then he is approached by a fat man, and he is made an offer. While he is on his daily run, stop at a certain tree and look around closely. If you see a package, put it in your backpack and bring it back to the marina. Put in in your locker while you take a shower. It will disappear, and you'll get two hundred dollars a week for doing it. Since Chance and his father are desparate for money, he does it. So he becomes another kind of runner. He's never told what's in the packages, but he knows - marijuana. Then something else shows up from time to time, along with an extra hundred dollars. The new substance is odorless and has a doughy texure. And in the post 9/11 world, Chance finds himself in a new kind of dilemma.
