In my mothers clippings I found a blurb on SMOKE SIGNALS and consequently have been introduced to Sherman Alexie. There's lots to choose from so I picked this cause they're short stories.

Ryan Dunk I'd start elsewhere; this is mostly a poetry collection, and not very representative of the Sherman Alexie I've read. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is the book Smoke Signals is based on (or at least, one of the stories in there), so you may want to start there. My favorite short story collection is The Toughest Indian in the World, and his novels are all great, too.
