I always enjoy Eoin Colfer and this novel is no exception. Artemis is faced once again with having to battle forces but this time his greatest enemy is his own mind. I found his struggle with madness to be realistic and quite touching.

Mr. Colfer maintained the usual amount of action and humor that is expected in his stories but the added level of personal drama is a great touch. Not only is it found within Artemis's story ark, but also with the villain as well. Captain Root is no mustache twirler. He is a twisted, sociopath to be certain, but his motivation is surprising and real.

The Artemis Fowl series continues to maintain it's status as a rock solid recommendation for young readers. The series has not lost any of the magic it started out with and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. Can't wait to see what Angeline has to say in the next book!
